In January 2006, I was thinking, it was time to create a website that was dedicated to the principles of the third angels message. I had already created a website for preachers of all denominations entitled HomileticsPortal.com. I decided on the name AdventistPreaching.Com. And just when he was about to register the name, someone else beat him to it. At that point, he settled on the name AdventistPulpit.
The site was basically a blog site that saught to incoporate an ecclectic mix of interests including African American Preaching, Adventist Preaching, as well as an interest in the 1888 messengers. The site was referred to in Ministry Magazine and made me one of the well known bloggers in the Adventist Blogosphere.
At that point, it came to the attention of the author that the site was in violation of the new Genral Conference guidelines for the use of the term “Adventist.” To come in compliance, Elder Cox voluntarily changed the name to “SabbathPulpit.com” In addition, more and more laypeople were readers of the site and thus the original thought of being a “Advnetist preachers” site wanned and the site was repositioned to address the laypeople who were the majority of the readers.
However due to other commitments the site began to slow and the director had made the decision to stop the site when a thought came to him, why not ask others to help. His first person was pastor James Owens who redily accepted. pastor Owens recuited Harold Brooks. My own father (Dr. S. Haywood Cox) has consented to contribute on occassion, and now there are a few more. Now we enter into a phase of the ministry of Sabbathpulpit where it ceases to be a one man show and becomes a multi-voiced ministry of those who are seeking to proclaim the message we have been called to preach. Certainly mine is still the dominant voice, but we are even at the present time seeking to expand even the blogging responsibilities to others.
Now the site is making the transition to a “web ministry” as it will seek to plug into future evangelistic meetings, the first is being planned right now. We are seeking to help a pastor in an indiviudal evangelistic meeting and pray that God will bless us. We are seeking to expand on the work that I have done to this point. Please Continue to pray for the ministry as we seek to spread the message through this vehicle that God has given to us.
I never could have imagined that this site would be used to provide materials to people in Iran, Africa, India, and other diverse locations. I never could have imagined the number of answers to questions that I would have done, and who would have known of the pulpit that God would give me. All I can say is Praise God from whom all blessings flow and lets continue to work for he that shall come, will come and will not tarry…
