What story could you preach the 2300 days to? Though one, eh? I'm thinking perhaps the one where Moses interceeds for the children of Israel.

Ahh...Forcing me to be practical...:-)

Let me say a couple of things. First, there is a place for the traditional way of teaching things. Our people should know the historical questions that were answered by the 2300 day prophecy.

Secondly, I assume that you are talking about the Sanctuary in general and using 2300 days as a shorthand for the sanctuary in general.

If that is the case then I think that one must look at the Sanctuary through a wider lens. For example, The Sanctuary as understood by Advnetists include intercession, but also cleansing. So now lets ask the question, "Who needs cleansing?" does this message have something to say to those who need cleansing? cleansing for some reason makes unclean spirits come to mind. Can we speak about the cleansing in relation to Jesus and his ministry to clean from unclean spirits? Just a thought...Needs to be worked out.

It is also about strength to the weak. We can look at the miracles of Jesus as illustrative of the present day sanctuary messsage of strength and healing. Perhaps when we preach these we include that perspective.

My basic point is slightly different from Barry Black's, mine is to use the Sanctuary as a lens through which you look at all the stories. There is always a "Sanctuary" dimension.

I would also say that there is always a Sabbath dimension. What if we looked at the Sabbath on the basis of equality. All people are treated the same in the Sabbath. Then we look at stories in the bible and some were true to this vision and others were not.

So to get back to your question...If I wanted to preach the 2300 days, I would probably either pick up on the cleansing or the "special-strength" that comes from Jesus' work there...One sermon that I have always wanted to preach but not had opportunity is on the 7 churches...Thsi is the sanctuary message. However I would only look at what Jesus is doing and not what Jesus is saying. Jesus is protecting the church throughout all time in that passage. Jesus is trimming the lamp of every church which shows a cutting away for the purposes of helping. etc...

I am rambling...there will be more to come if you keep looking at the blog...

God Bless...

Barry Black on a pastors greatest challenge...

Barry Black says his greatest goal is to continue “keeping chaplain Barry Black on the straight and narrow, ensuring that I don’t deviate from the path of unswerving integrity.”
