On October 22, 1844, Second-Adventists looked with great anticipation for the second coming of Jesus Christ. In the days preceding, many sold homes to provide funds to produce literature. Today, 153 years later, we still look forward to that great event.
Often we get into arguments over the validity of the year 1844 or the date October 22. But we lose the fact that our movement was born in pain, hurt, and disappointment. I can feel the anguished mother attempting to explain to her child why Jesus didn't come. I can see the poor farmer who had given all to the movement and now must find a way to continue on.
Today, On October 22 we look back at our pioneers knowing that ultimately God will wipe away the tears from their eyes. While they were wrong, one day they will see the one whom their soul loved, and we all will finally meet Jesus together in the air.
Lift up the Trumpet and Loud Let it Ring, Jesus is Coming Again.
